Engagement Ring by Budget: What to Expect at €1,000, €3,000, €5,000 and €10,000

If you are searching for an engagement ring by budget, the honest answer is that the same amount of money can buy very different things depending on whether you choose a natural or a lab-grown diamond. I'm Antonio, and in this guide I walk through what to expect at roughly €1,000, €3,000, €5,000 and €10,000, using the real options on our round brilliant pavé ring as examples. There is no "correct" amount to spend; the goal is to get the best ring for the budget that feels comfortable to you.

How I read the prices below

The figures in this article come from the variants of our round brilliant pavé ring, checked on our store while writing. I write them as "around" because prices on the site can change, and other shapes and metals may be priced differently. Always confirm the current price on the product page. Our rings range roughly from €1,000 to €10,000, so these four budgets cover the whole range.

Natural or lab-grown: the biggest budget lever

Natural and lab-grown diamonds are both real diamonds with the same basic structure; the difference is how they were formed. Lab-grown stones usually cost far less for the same carat weight, so the same budget buys a much larger stone. Natural stones are priced higher, and many people value their natural origin. If you want to explore this choice, read my comparison of lab-grown vs natural diamond, and my honest look at whether lab-grown diamonds are worth it.

Around €1,000: elegant and simple

Our range starts from around €1,200 on the round brilliant pavé ring, which is a lab-grown 0.30 ct. If your limit is exactly €1,000, I would be upfront that it sits just below our range, so you may prefer to save a little or talk to me about options.

  • A lab-grown 0.30 ct round at around €1,200, and a 0.50 ct at around €1,400.
  • A small natural diamond, 0.30 ct, starts at around €2,100, so it falls into the next budget.
  • Best for: a delicate everyday ring, or a first piece you may upgrade later.

Around €3,000: the biggest choice

This is where the decision between size and origin becomes clearest.

  • Natural: a 0.50 ct at around €2,500 or a 0.70 ct at around €3,000.
  • Lab-grown: a 2.00 ct at around €2,300 or a 3.00 ct at around €2,800.

So the same money can buy a half-carat natural stone or a lab-grown stone several times larger. Neither is wrong; it depends on whether you value natural origin or visual size.

Around €5,000: more room for quality

At this level, natural diamonds on our pavé rings are not yet at the 1.00 ct size, which is around €6,500, so a natural stone stays in the 0.50 to 0.70 ct range. Lab-grown is where the budget stretches:

  • A lab-grown 4.00 ct at around €3,400.
  • A lab-grown 5.00 ct at around €5,300.

With a larger budget, it also makes sense to be pickier about the other Cs. I explain how in my 4Cs guide.

Around €10,000: top of our range

  • Natural: a 1.50 ct round at around €10,000, and a 1.00 ct at around €6,500.
  • Lab-grown: a 6.00 ct at around €6,800 or a 7.00 ct at around €8,100.

Very large stones are not for everyone. A 7 ct diamond is a dramatic piece, so think about comfort, daily wear and the wearer's style before choosing size alone.

Budget comparison at a glance

Budget Natural example Lab-grown example
Around €1,000 Not available at this level 0.30 ct from around €1,200
Around €3,000 0.50 ct to 0.70 ct 2.00 ct to 3.00 ct
Around €5,000 0.70 ct 4.00 ct to 5.00 ct
Around €10,000 1.50 ct 6.00 ct to 7.00 ct

Trade-offs: size, quality or origin

You usually can't maximise everything. Think of three levers: carat size, the quality of the stone (cut, colour, clarity) and origin (natural or lab-grown). Pushing one up means giving ground on another, unless you raise the budget.

My advice: decide first whether natural origin matters to you, then choose the best cut you can afford, and only then decide how large the stone should be. Before you buy, check what a carat looks like on the hand in my carat size chart.

FAQ

How much should I spend on an engagement ring?

There is no fixed rule. Choose an amount that you are comfortable with, and remember that a beautiful ring does not depend on a particular price.

Can I get a bigger diamond for the same budget with lab-grown?

Yes. Lab-grown diamonds are usually much cheaper per carat, so the same budget generally buys a larger stone.

Do prices change with the metal or the shape?

They can. The examples here refer to our round brilliant pavé ring, so check the product page for the exact shape and metal you want.

Is a certificate included?

Our products come with recognised certificates. Ask us about the certificate (GIA, IGI or HRD) for your ring.

Can I choose a custom design?

I offer custom pieces, so if you have something specific in mind, message me and we can talk through what is possible.
